New Explosion-proof Inspection Robot Standard Includes Wireless Charging
In August 2024, the Ministry of Emergency Management issued the "Safety Technical Requirements for Intelligent Inspection Robot Systems in Hazardous Explosive Workplaces (Draft for Comment)".
This is China’s first national safety standard for robot systems in hazardous environments. The document clarifies for the first time:
Wireless charging is allowed, as long as it meets explosion-proof and electrical safety requirements.
Wireless charging technology is now recognized at the national standard level and will become an important technical direction for intelligent inspection and unattended equipment in hazardous areas.
1. National standards include wireless charging technology for the first time
In the document, the Department of Emergency Management clearly stated:
"The inspection robot system includes the robot body, charging station, fixed detection unit and other equipment."
"If wireless charging is used, measures should be taken to prevent accidental contact, sparks, short circuits, and static electricity."
This means wireless charging technology can be used in explosion-proof and hazardous workplaces.
As long as the corresponding safety technical requirements are met, a complete explosion-proof inspection solution can be built together with the inspection robot system.
2. Wireless charging: making inspections safer and smarter
Traditional plug-in charging has many hidden dangers in hazardous scenarios:
- The interface is easy to wear and spark;
- The operation requires manual intervention, which poses safety risks;
- Explosion-proof modification is complex and maintenance is difficult.
In contrast, wireless charging systems have significant advantages:
- No plug-in operation, Natural explosion proof;
- Automatic docking, Run unattended;
- Waterproof and dustproof design, supports fully sealed structure (IP67 or above);
- Can be seamlessly linked with the robot's automatic return system.
Wireless charging is becoming a key link to achieve "unattended inspection" in dangerous operating environments.
3. Security requirements and technical responses in standards
Article 4.4.6 of the document clearly states:
"The battery and charging parts should have functions such as overheating alarm, automatic charge interruption, anti-static, and anti-short circuit.
If wireless charging is used, measures should be taken to prevent accidental contact, sparks, short circuits, and static electricity. "
This is highly consistent with wireless charging technology:
Metal-free contact ports, low-voltage energy transmission, and automatic power-off mechanism can effectively avoid arc and spark risks.
Make the charging process safe and controllable in high-risk environments.
4. Main application scenarios
According to the document definition, the standard applies to the following hazardous working environments:
- Petrochemical storage tank area, refining equipment area;
- High temperature and high pressure pipe gallery in power plant;
- Mine tunnels and tunnels;
- Dangerous goods storage area;
- LNG, hydrogen and other new energy sites.
In these scenarios, wireless charging can effectively reduce manual intervention and maintenance costs.
This helps enable practical unattended safe operation.
